Schools’ Appeal

Schools' Appeal

Each year, about 30 schools across Tauranga participate in the annual Schools' Appeal for our Tauranga Community Foodbank.

Schools choose to run the appeal in either term two or term 3 (we try to get even numbers across both).

If you are participating in the 2024 Schools’ Appeal, here is some handy information.

Promotion

You know your school communities best; we love seeing what you come up with to engage your students and families.

We’ve seen great success when a group of students is put in charge of organising the drive.

Here is the link to download a graphic for your school newsletter if you wish.

You could also share the graphic on social media with your community. Please tag @TaurangaCommunityFoodbank – we love to see and share as well.

Education

We would love to host classes at the Foodbank if you would like to visit. These are always great learning opportunities.

We can also arrange someone from the Foodbank to come to your school and share a little bit more about what we do and what we see.

Other important things to note

We can supply boxes for you. Once we know your appeal dates, we will let you know when we will deliver them. Please use the banana boxes ONLY for light items, and the smaller boxes for heavy items. Heavy items cannot be placed in the banana boxes. This is for health and safety reasons; we need our volunteers in tip top shape.

We would be very grateful if you could count the number of items collected at the end of the appeal. It might be a good job for the kids! Knowing the number means it’s easier for our sorters in the warehouse, which means the items get to the community faster.

Do you know anyone in need?

Please also consider whether there is anyone in your school community who may be in need. It is often teachers and school staff who become aware of these; please contact us if we can help.

Want to be involved?

If you’re a school who hasn’t been involved before, but is keen to know more, please email us!
