Winter Appeal 2025

Sponsor a Local Kid This Winter! For many families, winter means tough choices—heat or food?

At Tauranga Community Foodbank, we're seeing the impact of that first-hand - more than 1,000 children access our support every month. That includes 80 to 100 new households turning to us for help, many for the first time.

That’s why we’re calling on YOU to help!

Just $6 a day—the cost of a café coffee—provides a child with a full day of nutritious meals. Whether you sponsor a day, a week, or a month, it all adds up to a huge difference for a local kid.

Our 2024 Christmas Appeal is live!

The annual six-week Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal has launched!

This is such an important of the year for us – it’s our biggest fundraiser and it sets us up not only to help families over the festive season, but well into the new year as well.

We are grateful for any donated items and all are put to good use. Some items that we particularly need are:

  • Cereal
  • Christmas treats
  • Spreads
  • Tinned soup
  • Drinking chocolate
  • Instant coffee
  • Canned fruit
  • Muesli bars
  • Tinned fish

Monetary donations are the highly valued too, although we know that not everyone is the position to be able to do that.

“Each year, I’m inspired by how this community rallies around us,” says Foodbank General Manager Nicki Goodwin.

“The need for food support in December is about 40% higher than the middle of the year, and there’s so much added pressure for people too.

“We’re forever grateful to the amazing work that the Bay of Plenty Times does in promoting and driving this appeal, as well as our huge team of volunteers and supporters.
