Christmas Appeal 2024

The holidays are a time for joy, family, and of course, good food. But for many families in our community, putting food on the table is a daily struggle. That’s where we come in — and where you can help.

For over 12 years, the Foodbank Christmas Appeal has been bringing our community together to support those in need. Driven by the amazing team at the Bay of Plenty Times, this campaign has raised over $1 million in cash and nearly $500,000 in groceries. That’s huge! The donations represent anywhere from 30 – 60% of our annual donations.

But the need is still great, and we’re counting on you to help us make this year’s appeal the best one yet.

Venison donation to fuel local families for months

Tauranga Community Foodbank team

We are incredibly grateful to receive a remarkable donation of 200 kilograms of fresh venison from ‘Hunt for Good’.

That is about 1,350 servings which is an amazing bolster for our supplies!

Hunt for Good is a New Zealand-based not-for-profit initiative dedicated to addressing food insecurity by supplying food banks with sustainably sourced wild game meat.

It also helps to manage New Zealand’s deer overpopulation, offering a solution that benefits both the environment and local communities.

By collaborating with hunters, businesses, and foodbanks, Hunt for Good makes sure that wild venison and other game meats are used effectively rather than going to waste.

We love a win-win situation here at the Foodbank – especially one where different community groups are working together on solutions. How good!

Hunt for Good is spearheaded by Jasper Osbourne, dad of two and electrician. (Jared runs Fused Electrical, specialising in lighting design and alternative power solutions).

We’re so grateful – and so are our clients!
